Our speaker Wolfgang Heinrichs is 56 years old and lives together with his wife in Garbsen near Hannover. He has three children that are meanwhile grown-up. He is aquarist since he was 14 years old. Like most other aquarists he began with livebearing fishes, but kept and bred later cichlids, labyrinths, tetras and killies. In his youth he was member of the local fish club and was active in the youth group of the club. During his studies he had to make a break, but in 1980 he started to be aquarist again and bought a big tank for his living room. Ten years later he converted his basement into a fish room, in that he was able to breed numerous dwarf cichlids and catfishes. Since the year 2000 he is member of the BSSW and since that time he spends most of his time with Corys and loricariids. Beneath some rare Corydoras he was able to breed some not even ordinary species of the genera Ancistrus, Hypancistrus and Peckoltia in his tanks. About his experiences in breeding catfishes he wrote several articles in magazines.
In his job Wolfgang shows a lot of commitment, too. Since 1980 he is established graduate teacher on a selective senior secondary school, where he teaches mathematics, physics and computer science and has meanwhile become a deputy head teacher. As a judge of the competition “Youth researches” he stands up very much for the advancement of our youth and has won several prices with the groups he took care of.
